Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals Foundation Trust
North Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals NHS Trust has made considerable effort to reduce its grey fleet mileage. Its pool car fleet of Vauxhall Corsa 1.3cdti’s EcoFlex models has almost doubled in size since 2007. An in-house car sharing website has been developed, as well as a new cross-site shuttle service which has saved over one million grey fleet miles and over £250,000. In three years it has taken a staggering 40,000 bookings. A new lease car policy encourages grey fleet drivers to switch to new leased low carbon emission vehicles by including a number of enhancements. All commercial vehicle drivers have been put through driver awareness workshops and an advanced on road driving session to increase driver safety and improve both driver and vehicle performance. The trust is also a member of EST’s Motorvate scheme.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust
An estimated 200,000 NHS employees drive their own cars for work, while there are more than 40,000 lease cars on NHS fleets. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital has set a carbon cap of 150g/km on all cars that employees can order to help promote its green credentials and sustainability. NHS CPC Drive was selected via the NHS focused fleet management service, which provides a single online platform offering a range of fleet services available to any of the 400-plus NHS Trusts nationally. It is delivered through integrated web based tools. The user friendly system simplifies your application and the ongoing management of your lease car and provides a comprehensive fleet support tool. There has been a positive reaction to the scheme, which went live in April, and takeup of around two per cent is expected.

Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust - Travel Planning
Winchester & Eastleigh continues to reduce its environmental impact, particularly in respect of staff travel. It has worked with the local authority over a number of years to develop a park and ride service that is safe, convenient and economical, and many now use this to manage their journeys to work. London Ambulance NHS Trust - Ambulance Cycle response Unit

Cycling has been greatly developed within the LAS, especially with the implementation of the Ambulance Bicycle. This has motivated many staff to cycle and given the LAS a different way of delivering patient care, with some remarkable life saving outcomes to getting a healthier workforce. Dealing with patients on scene and giving them many alternative care pathways reduces the demand on Accident and Emergency departments across the capital.

Eastern and Coastal Kent PCT - Videoconferencing/Travel Planning

The overall aim of NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent's Carbon reduction Strategy plan is to reduce emissions from the baseline of approximately 7,232 tonnes of carbon a year to 5,785 tonnes by 2014. If achieved this has the potential to save the trust around £3.3m in costs. As part of this,  the Trust has rolled out video conferencing facilities in four of its central office buildings. These help reduce travel time significantly for staff.

Hampshire Partnership NHS Trust - Smarter Driving
Hampshire Partnership NHS Trust was the first NHS trust to join the 'Smarter Driving Initiative'. Staff that transport service users, use trust owned vehicles, community staff or high mileage drivers are trained by instructors to drive more fuel efficiently and safely. It has the potential to reduce fuel consumption by 15%. The trust has also recently conducted a review of its Grey Fleet milage in conjunction with the Energy Saving Trust.

East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust - Healthy Transport Plan
East Sussex Hospitals’ healthy transport plan makes staff, patients and visitors consider more environmentally friendly travel options.
